Torque Limiting

The torque limiting function has been integrated into the Stratasys firmware to
protect against damage to the filament drive system during operation. This
function constantly monitors the motor current draw to the filament drive
motors. If the system detects an abnormality, the machine is put on pause so
the model is not wasted. Normal loading at 100 percent for P400-ABS should
produce a torque value up to 250. The torque value is accessed by pushing the
torque button, which is located directly underneath the "MODEL/SUPPORT"
button. If the torque value reads higher than this during loading, do not continue
without inspecting the system. If the torque limit activates while modeling,
assume there is a problem. Normal modeling conditions should yield a torque
reading of less than 200. Here are a list of possible causes for exceeding the
torque limit:
1)
The tip is plugged.
2)
The cap area is not properly cleaned prior to starting a model.
3)
The liquefier temperature is too low. Make sure the temperatures on the
Watlow controllers matches the recommended temperatures on the
material spool labels.
4)
The filament is bound up in the feed tube. Unload the filament. (See
page F2/3/8000-26 for filament unloading procedure.)
5)
The filament is knotted on the spool. Unload the filament and cut the knot.
(See page F2/3/8000-26 for filament unloading procedure.)
6)
Seals are too tight. Loosen the seals by turning them counterclockwise
with the seal tool supplied by Stratasys.
7)
Filament is missing hole at top of the liquefier.
Tech Tips
Before starting a model, material should be run for a short period of
l
time without the tip to purge any impurities from the liquefier.
Make sure the bottom surface of the liquefier (including the threads) is
l
clean before screwing on the tip.
Install the tip partially, allow the machine to heat to the recommended
l
temperature, and then screw the tip in tightly.
Use tweezers to pull any material backflow away from the cap area.
l
Make sure the filament entry area is clear before loading the filament.
