G-4
Contour Fill
A fill pattern that follows the shape of the perimeter curve. The thicker
circle, in the example, represents a perimeter curve. The two inner
circles represent contour fill roads for that perimeter curve
Curl
A distortion that involves two or more layers, in which shrinkage of a newly-
formed layer, while adhering to the previous layer, causes those two layers or
more to curl.
Curve (Slice Curve)
A geometric entity made up of polylines (connected line segments). Curves can be
open or closed (with start and endpoints at the same location). Slice curves are
created in planes parallel to the X-Y plane, along the Z axis.
Def File
A set of parameters that controls the FDM head, speed and material flow. The def file should
not be altered.
Delamination
Layer separation due to a lack of solid layer bonding.
Desiccant
A material designed to absorb moisture and keep the filament material dry.
Dry Box
An airtight box containing the material spools. It can contain up to two spools
and two bags of desiccant to keep the material dry. Keeping the material dry is
mandatory with P400-ABS, P400, and P500.
Emergency Stop
The orange switch on the far left side of the X-Y-Z Control panel. Pressing this
button stops operation of the machine. The process then must be aborted at the
workstation.
Envelope (see Modeling Envelope)
Estimated Build Time
The amount of time that Insight has estimated the FDM will take to complete a
part build.
FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling)
A process in which modeling material filament is pulled into a liquefier where it is
heated until the material reaches a near liquid state. The material then is depos-
ited on and fuses to previously deposited material, building up a physical model,
layer by layer.
