The document glass or the document cover is dirty.

Clean the document glass or the document cover.

The document size is too small.
The minimum document size that can be loaded on
the document feeder is A5.
If the problem is not solved, go to the next Cause and
Action.
The right type of document is not being used.
The document feeder cannot be used with irregular-
sized documents, business cards, transparencies, or
thin documents.
Documents with tags, paper clips, and cellophane tape
cannot be used.
If the problem is not solved, go to the next Cause and
Action.
The document guides are set incorrectly.
Set the document guides to match the document size.
If the problem is not solved, go to the next Cause and
Action.
Part of the document is torn, and a piece of torn paper
remains in the document feeder.
Open the document feeder cover, then remove the
torn piece of paper.
If the problem is not solved, go to the next Cause and
Action.
Documents of different sizes are set.
When setting documents of different sizes, ensure that
you select Mixed Size Originals.
