3. Depending on the file format selected, you can select the following options:
• Compression Method: This option allows you to set the compression method for scanned
image data. You can set the compression method to be selected automatically or you can
manually select the compression method for color and grayscale pages.
• MRC High Compression: This option allows you to save the PDF and XPS files with high
compression.
• Searchable Text: This option allows you to select whether to perform character recognition in
the PDF files.
• Add Thumbnail: When you select XPS, this option allows you to attach thumbnails to the XPS
files. A thumbnail is a reduced, small file-size image that helps you view the file contents.
• XPS Signature: When you select XPS, you can select XPS Signature. A digital signature is a
feature that allows a sender to add a digital fingerprint that is used to confirm that email
content sent to a receiver has not been altered.
Note: XPS Signature is an optional feature. A valid certificate is required for this
feature.
• Single File for Each Page: This option saves each page as a single file in the specified format.
• Optimize For Quick Web View: This option optimizes the PDF file so that the file appears
faster in a Web browser.
If you select one of the PDF file format options, the Optimize for Quick Web View option is
available. The Optimize for Quick Web View feature allows you to open and view the first
page of a multiple-page PDF document within a Web browser, while the remainder of the
document continues to load in the background. This action can increase the overall file size.
The Optimize for Quick Web View feature restructures an Adobe PDF document for page-at-a-
time downloading from web servers. With page-at-a-time downloading, the Web server sends
only the requested page, rather than the entire PDF document. This feature is especially
important with large documents that can take a long time to download from a server.
Check with your administrator to ensure that the web server software that you use supports
page-at-time downloading. To ensure that the PDF documents on your website appear in
older browsers, you can create HTML links to the PDF documents and keep the path names or
URLs to the files at fewer than 256 characters.
4. To save your settings, touch Save.

To resolve a file-name conflict:
1. On the Filing Options tab, touch File Name Conflict.
2. Select the appropriate option:
• Do Not Save: This option cancels the scan operation so that you can enter another file name.
• Rename New File: This option attaches a 4-digit number (0000–9999) to the end of the
duplicate file name, then saves the file in the same directory.
• Overwrite Existing File: This option deletes the existing file with the duplicate file name, then
saves the new file with the specified file name in the same directory.
3. Touch Save.
