SNMP Management
Connectrix provides a variety of methods for reporting problems and
failure conditions with the cabinet components.
Diagnostic software detects and reports hardware failures during
power-on and normal switch operation. Diagnostic software
includes:
Power-on self tests (POSTs), which verify the functioning of the
processor, master control logic memory, logic cards, and ports.
Errors appear on the operator panel and in the event log.
Internal and external port loopback tests, which service personnel
can run for individual ports, a range of ports, or all ports on a
card while the switch is on line.
Periodic health checking on the director-class product.
Service personnel can dial in to the Connectrix service processor via
the external modem to monitor switch operation and perform port
diagnostic tests.
If a problem occurs, the Connectrix service processor can
automatically dial out to a support center (if a call-home feature is
enabled) and/or send e-mail messages to up to six administrators (if
e-mail notification is enabled).
Administrators can configure the service processor to monitor
normal switch operations and report events through e-mail if the
customer has an existing e-mail server that supports SMTP (Simple
Mail Transfer Protocol).
The Connectrix service processor supports the FibreAlliance
FCMGMT MIB. The switches support the Fibre Channel Fabric
Element MIB, standard TCP/IP MIB-II definition (RFC1213), and
switch-specific MIBs.
Unsolicited SNMP trap messages are transmitted to authorized
management workstations.
When SNMP notifications are configured in the switch Product
Manager, unsolicited SNMP trap messages can be transmitted to
up to six authorized management workstations.
When SNMP notifications are configured in the Connectrix
Manager, unsolicited trap messages can be transmitted to up to 12
authorized management workstations.
