Port Binding

Port binding, new in Connectrix Manager v4.1, binds a specific WWN
to a specific port. The feature is configured through the Configure
Ports dialog box in the switch Product Manager. (The feature is not
available on the Embedded Web Server.)
Binding a WWN to a port prevents any other WWN from logging in
to that port.
Note that enabling port binding on a port that does not have a device
logged in will bind the port to a WWN of 0, preventing any device
from logging in until the port binding is cleared or configured to the
matching WWN on that port. This type of event will be noted in
Connectrix Manager with an
indicator and a
Invalid Attachment
reason code.
Port Binding Violation
If a device is already logged into a port and you manually configure
port binding by entering a WWN that does not match that of the
WWN already logged in to that port, it will cause the already logged
in device to be logged out, and it will prevent it from logging back in.
Activating port binding correctly on devices already logged in has no impact
on trafffic for the port(s). Activating port binding incorrectly on devices
already logged in will force the devices to be logged out.
Port binding can be activated by right-clicking a port on the
Configure Ports dialog box and selecting one of the options. (Refer to
the switch-specific user guides for more details on these options.)
Instead of right-clicking, you can manually enter the WWN of the
device you wish to bind in the Bound WWN column and checking
the WWN Binding checkbox for the port you are binding. When
manually entering the WWN, you can preceed the WWN with a
vendor prefix (for example: JNI-20:00:00:E0:69:00:0D:A0), or you can
enter the WWN without the prefix (for example:
20:00:00:E0:69:00:0D:A0). If you click the Activate button to enforce
the binding and you did not enter the prefix, Connectrix Manager
will display a warning indicating that the WWN does not match the
currently logged-in device. However, if you continue with binding
operation, it will work, because Connectrix Manager will resolve the
WWN to the correct vendor prefix and activate the binding.
Port binding can be done only with WWNs; entering nicknames in the
Bound WWN field is not supported at this time.
