Access for administrators, users, and service personnel (level of
access automatically determined by user designation) to facilitate
performance of configuration tasks, viewing of alerts and system
log events, and monitoring of system and port status
Highly visible display of component status and system alerts
Nondisruptive firmware updates through a menu option in the
Product Manager
A Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) agent is
implemented on the managed products.
Operators using authorized SNMP management stations can access
Connectrix switch information specified in the Fibre Channel
Management Integration MIB (FCMGMT-MIB) definition created by
the FibreAlliance. Modifications performed via SNMP management
stations are recorded in the associated Product Manager(s) audit
log(s).
You can download the MIB (Management Information Base) in
standard ASN.1 format from the Connectrix service processor using a
Web browser. Enter the URL of the service processor in the Location
(Netscape) or Address (Internet Explorer) field of the browser.
(Obtain the Connectrix service processor address from your network
administrator.)
The major function of the Connectrix switch operational firmware is
to provide services that manage and maintain Fibre Channel
connections between switch ports. Although switch hardware
transmits Fibre Channel frames between source and destination
ports, the firmware maintains routing tables required by the
hardware to perform the switching functions.
Switch firmware also provides functions for system configuration,
control, maintenance, and redundancy management, including:
System Management Services — Configures, controls, and
monitors switch operation. The subsystem:
• Centrally manages all configuration and status information.
• Implements an SNMP agent to allow access by SNMP
managers using the Fibre Channel Fabric Element MIB,
standard TCP/IP MIB-II definition, and/or switch-specific
MIB.
• Manages network connections from the Connectrix service
processor.
