Names
Port names can be up to 24 alphanumeric characters. Spaces,
hyphens, and underscores are allowed. Each port name must be
unique within an switch. However, the same port name can be used
on separate switches.
EMC recommends that unique port names be used across all
switches, particularly within a complex multiswitch fabric.
For clarity, you should assign names to ports based upon the units
that connect to the ports (for example, lab server or system 2).
Nicknames can be up to 32 alphanumeric characters. Spaces,
hyphens, and underscores are allowed. Each nickname must be
unique (corresponding to a unique WWN).
Wherever the Connectrix Manager usually displays the WWN of the
end device, it displays the nickame instead.
EMC recommends that nicknames describe the server and the HBA,
or the Symmetrix and its Fibre Channel director (FA) port.
Examples of nicknames include Fabric-1, NT Exchange 1 HBA 1, and
Symm 1515 FA 15A.
The Zone library contains Zone Sets for all fabrics managed by the
Connectrix service processor. Extreme care must be taken not to
activate a Zone Set that belongs to a fabric other than the one on
which it is being activated. One technique for avoiding this situation
is to assign a letter to each fabric to be managed. Then begin the name
of each switch and the name of the fabric's Zone Set with this letter.
Refer to Connectrix Naming Guidelines on page 3-14.
The planning worksheet in Appendix E depicts port assignments for
the switches in each cabinet, and provides fields to identify each
end-device. Enter port names and other configuration information
from the configuration diagram to the worksheet. (Refer to Diagram
the Planned Configuration on page 5-31.)
