Determining the
Number of Ports
5-4
Connectrix v6.02 Planning Guide
The total number of ports required is equal to:
Number of device connections (including redundant connections)
plus
Number of ISLs (multiswitch fabric only)
plus
Number of spare ports
When deciding how to achieve that number of ports, consider the
following:
To eliminate potential single points of failure, connections from a
specific area or application should be spread out over multiple
port cards. Each port card has four ports.
To expedite connection transfers if necessary, you should allow at
least one spare port card per switch. (Refer to Planning for Spare
Ports on page 5-7.)
For networks that incorporate active remote user workstations,
the Connectrix service processor can support up to nine
simultaneous sessions (one local and eight remote).
All remote workstations must have access to the customer data
network to which the Connectrix service processor is connected.
In a service processor employing dual Ethernet adapter cards, the
remote connection will be via the 10/100 Base-T (fast Ethernet)
customer data network (as opposed to the 10Base-T private
Connectrix network on which switches have been isolated).
