How to Design a Solution
A

Total Port Count

Connectrix v6.02 Planning Guide
A-2
To calculate a total port count:
1.
Identify the number of Fibre Channel HBAs in each server, and
calculate the total.
2.
Identify the number of Fibre Channel director ports in each
Symmetrix, and calculate the total.
3.
Add the totals from steps 1 and 2.
4.
Divide the total from step 3 by 60. The result is the required
number of ED-64Ms, allowing four spare ports in each ED-64M.
(These ports can minimize the impact of an interruption during
replacement of an ED-64M port card.)
If the calculated result is a small fraction over a whole number
(adding another ED-64M for a very small number of ports), try
dividing the total from step 3 by 61. This allows three spare ports
per ED-64M. However, you should consider the impact of the
spare ports and the benefit of adding one more ED-64M.
Plan to spread the ports evenly across the ED-64Ms.
Availability and performance considerations might require an
adjustment to the number of ED-64Ms in a subsequent iteration of the
product design.
5.
Divide the calculated number of ED-64Ms by four, to determine
the required number of EC-1200 cabinets.
