Upgrading to a Single Service Processor Environment

C

Introduction

Connectrix v6.02 Planning Guide
C-2
A Connectrix service processor designated as the primary service
processor can manage multiple switches in multiple cabinets, linked
over ISLs as one or more fabrics. Consolidating managment of
multiple switches/fabrics onto a primary service processor simplifies
administration of the fabric(s).
The remaining service processors can be used as client workstations
to connect to the primary service processor. These remaining service
processors do not automatically take control of the environment in
the event of a failure on the primary service processor. However, the
backup data on the Zip disk from the primary service processor can
be used to quickly restore a secondary/Client service processor to
become the primary.
CAUTION
!
All zoning administration should be done from the primary service
processor, either locally or through client sessions.
All switches in a single fabric should be managed by the same service
processor. All other service processors should be used as Clients to
access the Server service processor.
Generally a customer will have one of three service processor
configurations:
Multiple service processors, each with a single Ethernet adapter
installed. (Refer to Figure C-1 on page C-3.)
Multiple service processors, each with two Ethernet adapters
installed, but with only the adapter configured for the private
switch network being used. (Refer to Figure C-2 on page C-4.)
Multiple service processors, each with two Ethernet adapters
installed. One adapter is configured for the private switch
network, and the other is configured for the customer's public
network. (Refer to Figure C-3 on page C-5.)
There could be other service processor configurations; however, those
listed above are the most probable, and this appendix addresses only
those configurations.
