Zone Naming — Character Set Considerations

Connectrix v6.02 Planning Guide
The V3 Connectrix Manager character set requirements for the
Zoning Library have changed with V4.x/6.x. The changes make the
V4.x/6.x character set requirements compatible with the character set
requirements established for Open Fabric 1.0. The change between V3
and V4.x/6.x is a reduction in the characters supported. An
automated conversion process is supported in the V4.x/6.x
Connectrix Manager. These requirements apply to the zone name and
the zone set name.
Names shall adhere to the following rules:
A name shall be 1 to 64 characters in length
All characters shall be 7 bit ASCII characters
The first character of a given name shall be a letter. A letter is
defined as either an uppercase character (A through Z) or a
lowercase character (a through z).
Any character other than the first character shall be one of these:
• A lowercase character (a through z)
• An uppercase character (A through Z)
• A number (0 through 9)
• One of these symbols: $
The V3 character set did not have the restriction on the first letter of the
name, and included some other special characters.
