Connectrix v6.02 Planning Guide
Ethernet cable routing outside the Connectrix cabinet, either
through the service processor or directly (when using the switch
director firmware rather than the service processor in SNMP
configurations), to both the private Connectrix network and the
customer data network.
The need for additional fiber-optic cabling can grow rapidly. For
example, more cable may be required for connections to additional
cabinets or peripheral devices. In addition, the cabinet may need to
be moved for more efficient connection to other units, while
maintaining its original connections. Therefore, consider installing
excess fiber-optic cable.
Each EC-1200 cabinet has a maximum of 420 ports (Three ED-140Ms),
which requires routing and connecting up to 420 fiber-optic cables
inside the cabinet. Follow a logical plan for routing cables to ports in
order to avoid confusing cable connections during installation and
operation.
HBA and Symmetrix ports that use the availability and load
balancing services of EMC PowerPath should have their switch-side
links spread over port cards. If multiple ISLs go to another domain,
spread them across port cards.
Connect a cable to port 0; then continue sequentially through the last
port.
Route fiber-optic cables from under the data center floor to the
bottom front of the EC-1200. (Refer to Figure 5-9 on page 5-19 for the
floow tile cutout dimensions.) From there route the cables up to the
appropriate director/switch using the hook/loop fasteners to secure
the cables neatly to the sides of the cabinet.
From the side of the cabinet, route the cables across the middle of the
cabinet utiltizing the D-ring cable organizers. Then route the cables
up or down to the appropriate port on the switch.
The EC-1200 provides for cables to be routed from the top front of the cabinet
as well.
