3. Inspection Items

1) Disassembly of Starter Motor

1. Remove starter motor from power unit.
Refer to "Removing Starter Motor" in chapter 5.
Loosen M8 nut 1 of magneto switch terminal, and then,

remove motor lead.
Loosen bolts 3 (M5, 2 pcs.) of starter motor rear cover 2,
3.
and then, remove the cover.
Take care not to give damage to permanent
magnets of yoke when puling out armature.
Loosen screws 4 (M4, 2 pcs.) of starter motor rear cover,
4.
and then, remove armature.
Take care not to lose thrust washers that
are located on the bottom of metal bearing
of rear cover.
Brush holders are left in the motor body at the
time rear cover is removed.
Use bladed screw driver to remove thrust washer A 5 from
5.
groove of armature shaft.
Remove brush holder 6 from commutator carefully, and
6.
then, remove armature.
Be careful not to give damage to brushes
and commutator.
