Creating a Distributed AP

An AP can connect to the wired network through a direct 10/100 Ethernet connection to an WSS or indirectly through
other Layer 2 or Layer 3 wired networking devices. Configure a Distributed AP for each indirectly connected AP.
Table 3
lists how many APs you can configure on a WSS, and how many APs a switch can boot. The numbers are for
directly connected and Distributed APs combined.

To create a distributed AP

Access the Create AP wizard:

Select the Configuration tool bar option.

In the Organizer panel, click the plus sign next to the WSS.

Click the plus sign next to Wireless.

Select Access Points.

In the Task List panel, select AP.

In the Name box, type a name (1 to 16 alphanumeric characters, with no spaces or tabs).

In the DAP Number box, specify the connection number for the WSS's connection to this Distributed AP.
The range of valid connection numbers depends on the WSS model:
For a 2382, you can specify a number from 1 to 320.
For a 2380, you can specify a number from 1 to 300.
For a 2360/2361, you can specify a number from 1 to 30.
For a 2350, you can specify a number from 1 to 8.

In the Serial Number box, type the serial number of the AP.
