The WLAN Management Software Service regularly checks the status of the network, and reports that status to each
WLAN Management Software client connected to the service. Optionally, the service also receives SNMP traps
generated by the WSSs and shows information based on those traps.
The Monitor function displays information retrieved from the WLAN Management Software service. Information is
presented in the following views under the Monitor tool bar option:
•
Status Summary-Shows the high-level status for Nortel equipment.
•
Client Summary-Shows activity, errors, and session information for network clients.
•
Alarm Summary-Shows faults (alarms) for WSSs.
•
Traffic Summary-Shows traffic statistics for the network.
Clicking the Details button in any of these views provides more information about the data in the view.
Requirements for Monitoring
To enable the WLAN Management Software service to monitor network data, you or the WLAN Management Software
service administrator must specify the WSSs to monitor. The WLAN Management Software service collects data from
the switches and updates the information in the views under the Monitor tool bar option for WLAN Management
Software clients.
To specify the WSSs to monitor, upload their configuration into WLAN Management Software or add them to the
network plan. In addition, enable SNMP traps on the WSSs.
By default, the WLAN Management Software service supplies data to all of the views under the Monitor tool bar option.
This data is refreshed at regular intervals, according to the polling interval configured for the WLAN Management
Software service. The default polling interval is 5 minutes.
You can optionally disable the WLAN Management Software service from supplying data to specified views. To
configure the WLAN Management Software service for monitoring, see
