To Check:
1. Place lift or car jack under lower frame front
crossmember and raise wheel off floor. This will
maintain load on the ball joints.
2. Spin wheel to check for unusual noise.
3. If bearings are noisy or excessively loose, they
should be cleaned and inspected prior to adjustment.
NOTE:
To check for loose bearing, mount a dial
indicator
to the adjusting nut (Fig
a
3-2) with the
indicator ball on a smooth portion of the wheel hub.
Grip the tire at the top and bottom and move the
wheel assembly in and out on the spindle.
Move
ment greater
than .005" indicates a loose bearing.

to inspect bearings, see Minor Re
pairs - Wheel Bearing Remove and Replace.
To Adjust:

1. Raise wheel and tire
assembly off ground.
2. Remove dust cap and cotter pin from adjusting
nut.
3. Adjust bearing as follows:
a. Fully
seat bearing parts by continuously
rotating the drum while tightening the adjusting
nut to 10-16 lb. ft. torque.
