Communication Features
If the setting is selected from the control panel, the machine returns to the
default setting after the operation. You can set the Halftone user option setting
to print all documents using the halftone mode. To change the default setting,
see the " Halftone " section on page 50.

Error Correction Mode

When using Error Correction Mode (ECM), the machine stores and transmits
a document section-by-section and monitors the transmit signals on the
telephone line. If the machine detects an error, it can resend the section of the
document that was being transmitted during the error.
When the ECM mode is off, the memory previously reserved for ECM
processing is reallocated for document storage.
You can enable or disable ECM in these two ways:
Set ECM in the Phonebook - this setting overrides the machine setting.
See the " Setting up the Phonebook " section on page 90.
Select ECM in the Dial Options - this setting overrides the default setting
and the phonebook setting. The setting is used for a single job and returns
to the default upon completion of the job. To override the default, see the
" Dial Options Menu " section on page 58.
As per ITU specification for V.34 fax transmission, the ECM is always enabled
by default.
Charge Codes
If you wish to use Charge Codes. To use this procedure, the Pause key must
be enabled for Dial Options. To do this, please see Fax Control Panel Keys on
page 30 of the User's Guide.
This feature allows you to include a charge code with the telephone number.
The display and reports will indicate a "C" symbol for the charge code number.
You can also program the charge code in the phonebook for automatic dialing
or prompt for its input during the dialing sequence. See the " Setting up the
Phonebook " section on page 90.
To enter a charge code with a fax number:

Press Pause.
Press 2 or press Æ until Charge Code blinks, then press Enter.

You will be prompted to select Enter Now or Enter Later. Toggle between
the two using the left or right arrow key. Select one by pressing Enter.
