Chapter 6
Sending a Fax
6
This chapter describes how to send a fax using various transmission methods.
Sending a fax involves loading the document, dialing a number, and
transmitting the document. Documents can be sent using several dialing
methods. See the " Dialing Methods " section on page 53 for detailed
information.
If you dial a group, the machine scans the document into the memory before
dialing. If the machine detects a busy signal, the machine automatically redials
the number or group of numbers.
If the document is stored in memory and a communication error occurs during
the transmission, the machine resends the document, beginning with the first
page of the fax, and then sends the first page that did not transmit successfully.
If completion of the communication is unsuccessful, the LCD displays an error
message until the STOP key is pressed or another call is processed.
If the Confirmation Report and Broadcast Report options are on, the machine
automatically prints a Confirmation Report after each transmission. The report
also prints if the jobs are canceled. To change these settings, see the " Fax
Send Confirmation/Error Report " section on page 119.

Loading a Document

The automatic document feeder holds up to 50 originals. If a document can not
feed through the scanner, create a copy on another copier using bond paper.
Use the copied image to transmit. The following types of originals should be
copied on bond paper:
Undersized, lightweight, or heavy card stock.
Irregularly shaped or damaged pages.
Pages that are stapled, pasted up, or bound.
Carbon-backed copies.
Load all documents face down in the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF).
Adjust the paper guides to the width of the document so the pages do not skew
as they feed through the scanner.
By default, you can load a document that is up to 279mm (11 in) wide and 1m
(39.37 in) long.
