• Replace the injection liner and the septum in the GC injector at regular intervals.
Contamination of these components can lead to poor chromatography (tailing peaks) and loss
of sensitivity due to adsorption of analyte in the injector.
• After you install a new column, ensure that the correct conditioning procedure is completed.
• Thoroughly inspect for leaks after installing a column. A small amount of oxygen entering the
GC column can lead to permanent damage to the column. Use isopropyl alcohol or an
electronic leak inspector.
• Do not use Snoop soap solution. It can cause contamination.

4.12 Cleaning the instrument case

4.13 Replacing the gas cylinders

To avoid fire or explosion caused by incorrectly fitted gas connections, do not attempt
to change or perform any maintenance on the gas lines connected to the instrument or the GC
oven. Only qualified personnel should carry out this work, ensuring at all times that the
organization's operating procedures are followed.

Replace any of the following gases when empty:
• Carrier gas—connected to the GC oven
• Collision gas—connected to the instrument

4.14 Maintaining the rotary backing pump oil

Top up the backing pump's oil when the oil level is low.
Tip:
To check the oil level, view it through the sight glass on the pump's rear panel.
Replace the backing pump's oil when any of the following conditions apply:
