Starting the Engine in Cold
Weather
‹ CAUTION
Allow the engine to idle for at least half a minute.
Thereafter operate the machine at less than full
throttle until operating temperatures have
reached normal range and no warning indicators
are illuminated.
Ensure the battery disconnect switch is turned
ON (if fitted).
Ensure the park brake is applied.
Ensure that N on the gear selector is selected.
Note: The engine cannot be started when any gear
is selected.
Push the engine stop control in fully.
Insert the machine key into the ignition switch.
Turn the ignition switch clockwise to the ON (I)
position and check that the following indicators
illuminate:
• Engine oil pressure indicator (flash).
• Park brake indicator (flash).
• Transmission oil pressure indicator (flash).
• Low water level (on for a few seconds).
• Battery charge indicator (remain on).
Note: The cold start function of the machine is auto-
matic. The cold start function will only operate when
the outside temperature drops below 15
Wait until the cold start indicator goes off (ap-
proximately 20 seconds).
‹ CAUTION
Do not run the engine at high speed (rpm) or
heavy loading until the engine oil, transmission
oil and hydraulic oil has warmed up to the nor-
mal operating temperature.
Press the start button until the engine has started.
Note: The machine acceleration is pneumatically
controlled. The accelerator is not operational until
the pneumatic pressure reaches 810 kpa (117 psi).
Note: Do not hold the start button in the start position
for more than 17 seconds. If the engine does not
start, wait 1 minute before attempting to restart the
engine to allow the battery to stabilize. If the engine
does not start after 2 attempts investigate the cause.

Shutting Down the Engine

Stop the machine in the straight ahead position.
Refer to
dure for stopping the machine.
Apply the park brake and select N on the gear
selector.
Never stop the engine from high idle. This will
cause damage to the turbochargers and the en-
gine.
Allow the engine to run for 2 minutes to allow the
turbochargers to slow down and the engine tem-
perature to stabilize.
Turn the ignition switch counter clockwise to the
OFF (O) position.
Pull the engine stop control up and hold it in this
position until the engine has stopped.
Push the engine stop control in fully and remove
the machine key.
If the machine is stopped overnight ensure the
battery disconnect switch is turned to the OFF
position.

than 30 seconds at any one time because of the
rapid rise in fluid temperature. Do not allow the
converter-out fluid temperature (transmission
fluid temperature as displayed on the driver's in-
strument panel) to exceed 120°C (248°F)
2. Never permit a stall condition to arise if the
converter-out fluid temperature (as displayed on
the driver's instrument panel) is below 45°C
(113°F) or if the sump fluid temperature is below
30°C (86°F).
3. Serious transmission damage will be caused if
the CAUTIONS above are ignored.
Check that all the gauges and indicators are opera-
tional. Ensure the readings are correct. Refer to
Operator, Controls and Instruments, Chapter 2
for the correct readings
Wait until there is sufficient air pressure (810 kPa
{117 psi}) before driving the machine.
