Check that there are no personnel on or around the
machine before driving the machine. Sound the horn

Gear Shifting

‹ CAUTIONS
1. Do not allow the machine to free wheel as this
will cause damage to the transmission from lack
of lubrication.
2. Do not continually select from 1st forward to
1st reverse as this will cause damage to the
transmission.
The transmission has 5 forward gears and 1 reverse
gear with automatic lock-up for all gears. The trans-
mission can be operated as a fully automatic
transmission.
Note: It is recommended the gear selector is re-
leased after a machine direction selector switch is
pressed.
Gear Shifting Safety Functions
Note: The machine transmission is fully automatic.
The inhibitor will not allow a lower gear to be se-
lected until the engine speed has been reduced
sufficiently to prevent overspeeding of the transmis-
sion.
Gear Shifting
Gear shifting is dependent on engine speed (rpm)
and operating (site) conditions.
The following procedure must be used in gear shift-
ing:
Start the machine.
Ensure that park brake is applied.
Apply the service brake.
Forward Selection
Select D on the gear selector.
Release the park brake.
Release the service brake and increase the en-
gine speed (rpm).
As the machine speed increases, the transmission
will select the next gear.
With drive (D) selected, the attainable gears will be
displayed.

Reverse Selection
Select R on the gear selector.
Release the park brake.
Release the service brake and increase the en-
gine speed (rpm).
As the machine speed increases, the transmission
will select (sequentially) the next gear.
Controlled Gear Range
For certain conditions only a limited range of gears
may be required. To select the range of gears re-
quired, proceed as follows:
Start the engine
Ensure that the park brake is applied.
Apply the service brake.
Select D on the gear selector
Press the upshift button (forward facing arrow)
to the required number of gears.
To select the normal driving gear range the drive but-
ton (D) must be pressed.

Retarder

The retarder system is fully automatic and will be ac-
tivated when the accelerator pedal is released.

Service Brakes and Park Brakes

During normal operation the machine must be
stopped using the service brakes. When the ma-
chine is stopped for more than a few seconds the
park brake must be applied.
Service Brakes
‹ WARNING
Avoid using the service brake over extended pe-
riods. Excessive use of the service brakes will
result in the brake assembly overheating which
may cause a brake assembly failure.
Stopping the machine with the service brakes is
done as follows:
Release the accelerator.
Note: When the accelerator is released the retarder
will be activated.
Note: it is recommended that the retarder brake
function is used to slow the machine down and the
service brakes used to stop the machine.
While driving the machine normally the brake
pedal must be pressed.
