Dipstick Check - Transmission Fluid COLD
(Cold Check)
‹ CAUTION
DO NOT start the engine until the presence of
transmission fluid has been confirmed.
The Cold Check determines if the transmission has
sufficient fluid to be operated safely until a Hot
Check can be made.
‹ CAUTION
DO NOT start the engine until the presence of
transmission fluid has been confirmed.
A cold check may be performed after initial start-up
and the presence of transmission fluid has been con-
firmed. The sump fluid temperature is then typically
16°C to 49°C (60°F to 120°F)
Note: Check the transmission fluid temperature on
the master display unit.
1. Ensure that the machine is parked on a level
surface and the park/emergency brake is ap-
plied.
2. Start the engine and run it at idle in N (Neutral)
for approximately one minute.
3. Shift to D (Drive) and then to R (Reverse) to ex-
pel all air from the transmission circuits and fill
the system with fluid.
4. Shift to N (Neutral) and leave the engine at idle.
5. With the engine running, unscrew and remove
the dipstick from the tube and wipe clean.
6. Clean the end of the tube before inserting the
dipstick.
7. Insert the dipstick into the tube and remove to
check the fluid level.
8. Repeat check procedure to verify the reading.
9. If the fluid level is within the "Cold Full and Cold
Add" band (1) the transmission may be operated
until the fluid is hot enough to perform a "Hot
Check".

10. If the fluid level is not within the "Cold Full and
Cold Add" band, add or drain transmission fluid
as necessary to bring it within the band.
‹ CAUTION
The fluid level rises as the fluid temperature in-
creases. DO NOT fill above the "Cold Full" mark
if the transmission fluid is below normal operat-
ing temperatures. Normal operating temperature
is 71°C to 93°C (160°F to 200°F).
‹ CAUTION
The transmission must not be operated for ex-
tended periods until a "Hot Check" has verified
proper fluid level.
Dipstick Check - Transmission Fluid HOT
(Hot Check)
The Hot Check verifies proper fluid level.
Ensure that the transmission fluid has reached nor-
mal operating temperature; 71°C to 93°C (160°F to
200°F)
Note: Check the transmission fluid temperature on
the master display unit.
1. Ensure that the machine is parked on a level
surface and the park/emergency brake is ap-
plied.
2. Allow the engine to run at idle in N (Neutral).
3. Unscrew and remove the dipstick from the tube
and wipe clean.
4. Clean the end of the tube before inserting the
dipstick.
5. Insert the dipstick into the tube and remove to
check the fluid level.
6. Repeat the check procedure to verify the read-
ing.

7. The safe operating fluid level is within the "Hot
Full and Hot Add" band (1).
8. If the fluid level is not within the "Hot Full and Hot
Add" band, add or drain transmission fluid as
necessary to bring it within the band.
