Transmission

Change the Transmission Fluid and
Filters
Drain the Transmission Fluid
1. Ensure that the transmission fluid has reached
normal operating temperature; 65°C to 93°C
(116°F to 200°F)
Note: Check the transmission fluid temperature on
the master display unit.

2. Place a 30 litre (8 USGAL) container under the
transmission drain plug (1).
‹ WARNING
Be careful when draining the transmission fluid,
hot fluid can cause burns to unprotected skin.
3. Remove the drain plug with its sealing ring and
allow the fluid to drain into the container.
4. Disconnect the pipes from the transmission fluid
cooler, allowing the cooler fluid to drain into the
container.
5. Reconnect the pipes to the transmission fluid
cooler.
6. Clean the drain plug and the sealing surface on
the housing.
7. Install the drain plug with a new sealing ring.
8. Tighten the drain plug to 25 to 32 N⋅m (38 to 45
lb ft)
9. Inspect the drained transmission fluid for evi-
dence of dirt, foreign matter or excessive water.

Replenish the Transmission Fluid
1. Use a funnel in the dipstick tube to replenish the
transmission fluid.
2. Fill the transmission with the correct grade of
fluid. Refer to Specifications -
Chapter 1 - Recommended Fuels, Lubricants
and Coolant Additives.
3. Check the fluid with the dipstick at regular inter-
vals during the filling procedure. Use the Cold
Check method initially, followed by one of the
other two methods as detailed in
Transmission Fluid Level -Daily or 10 Hourly
Service Checks, Chapter 9.
4. Check for signs of fluid leaks at the drain plug.
Change the Transmission Fluid Filters
1. Pump up the front axle with the levelling valve to
allow sufficient space to replace the filter and
support the assembly on blocks.
2. Place a container underneath the filters to avoid
fluid spillage.
Note: only 2 litres of oil is wasted during filter re-
placement.
Always replace both filters and do not re-use
them.

3. Remove the twelve bolts (1) securing the two fil-
ter covers (2) to the housing.
4. Remove the O-rings (3) and the seals (4) from
the filter covers.
5. Discard the filters (5), do not re-use.
6. Smear a small amount of oil on the O-rings in-
side the new filters.
7. Install the seals onto the filter covers.

8. Install the filters and secure with the filter covers.
