CHAPTER 4. OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

‹ CAUTION
Read and understand all of the operator related
chapters in this manual before performing any of
the following procedures and obey all Warnings
and Cautions contained in the sections. Refer to
the detailed procedures in the relevant chapter.

Safety Rules

Trainers are only allowed on machines provided with
a trainer seat and with approval by site manage-
ment.
Always wear the seat belt when operating the ma-
chine.
Check that the mirrors are correctly positioned for
the best visibility.
Check that no personnel are near the machine.
Adapt the machine speed to road conditions, load
and visibility.

Starting the Engine

Adjust the operators seat for the best operator com-
fort and easy access to the machine controls.
Fasten the seat belt and adjust the seat belt to fit
firmly across the front of the pelvis
Starting the Engine in Warm
Weather
‹ CAUTION
Allow the engine to idle for at least half a minute.
Thereafter operate the machine at less than full
throttle until operating temperatures have
reached normal range and no warning indicators
are illuminated.
Starting the engine in warm weather does not re-
quire any special procedures.
Ensure the battery disconnect switch is turned
ON (if fitted).
Ensure the park/emergency brake is applied.
Ensure that N on the gear selector is selected.
Push the engine stop control in fully.

Insert the machine key into the ignition switch
(2).
Turn the ignition switch clockwise to the ON (I)
position and check that the following indicators
illuminate:
• Engine oil pressure indicator (flash).
• Park brake indicator (flash).
• Transmission oil pressure indicator (flash).
• Low water level.
• Battery charge indicator (remain on).
‹ CAUTION
If any of the indicators do not illuminate then ei-
ther the bulb is blown or there is an electrical
fault. The fault must be rectified immediately.
‹ CAUTION
Do not run the engine at high speed (rpm) or
heavy loading until the engine oil, transmission
oil and hydraulic oil has warmed up to the nor-
mal operating temperature.
Note: The machine acceleration is pneumatically
controlled. The accelerator is not operational until
the pneumatic pressure reaches 810 kpa (117 psi).
Press the start button (1) until the engine has
started.
‹ CAUTION
Do not hold the start button in the start position
for more than 17 seconds. If the engine does not
start, wait 1 minute before attempting to restart
the engine to allow the battery to stabilise. If the
engine does not start after 2 attempts, investi-
gate the cause.
