Use the following steps to calibrate the stage.
Perform the calibration process with the same magnification
(for example 10x) that is used for screening slides.
1
Put the slide securely on the stage with the label on the left.
MAKE SURE THAT THE CLIP GRIPS THE SLIDE EDGE
SECURELY. AN UNSECURED SLIDE COULD FALL INTO A
SLOTTED STAGE OPENING AND BE DAMAGED. DAMAGED
OR BROKEN SLIDES CAN CAUSE INJURIES. BE CAREFUL
NOT TO ALLOW THE CLIP TO SNAP AGAINST THE GLASS.
2
Looking through the oculars at the same magnification used for screening slides, for
example 10x magnification, position the stage so that the top edge of the slide appears in the
center of the field. Be sure to use the actual top edge of the slide as opposed to the
coverslip.
During calibration, be certain to center on the edge of the slide, not
the edge of the coverslip. To find the slide edge, start in the center of
the slide where the cells are and move towards the edge. There
should be two edges. The first edge is the coverslip and the second
Another approach is to start on the edge of the slide and move from
the metal clip towards the cell deposition area. The two edges will
be visible. The first edge will be the slide edge.
