Adhesive and Mounting Requirements

Consider the specifications and requirements illustrated in Figure 18-2 when selecting an adhesive
and mounting coverslips. Refer to Section 13.2.4 for additional detail.

Staining and Fixative Requirements

The slides must be stained with the Papanicoloau method. Before staining conventional Pap
Smears, all fixatives (a combination of alcohol with or without a wax-like substance called
CarboWax) must be removed by immersing in 95% ethanol for a minimum of 10 minutes.

Operating the BD FocalPoint™ Slide Profiler
This section describes the specific tasks performed to process conventional slides using the
BD FocalPoint™ Slide Profiler. For tasks instructions common to processing other slide types,
refer to previous sections (see list below).This section lays out the task sequence and provides
detailed instructions when appropriate.
A typical daily operation includes the task sequence listed below. Figure 15-1 illustrates a typical
