Maintenance & Troubleshooting
30.1

Maintenance procedures

Once every 12 months, preventive maintenance is required to be performed by BD authorized
service personnel.
30.1.1

Controller/Stage

Clean the stage and controller with a clean, dry cloth.
30.1.2

Microscope

Refer to the manufacturer's manual for cleaning instructions.
Disassembling some components of the microscope during routine
If the stage, stage mount, or condenser are removed but not disassembled, re-calibration is
not necessary as long as all components are properly repositioned when maintenance is
complete.
If the stage, stage mount, or condenser is disassembled, the scope must be re-calibrated by
a BD-authorized service representative before it can be returned to use.
Slide holder alignment
If it is necessary to replace or reposition the stage slide holder, it is important to maintain the
correct mounting position. This component is often removed as part of annual or semi-annual
microscope cleaning. Precise alignment, particularly in the y axis (in and out), allows the slide
calibration to be set correctly.
1
Install the slide holder by placing it on the stage and sliding the slide holder cutout slots
under the retaining screws on the stage.
2
Tighten the retaining screws, but leave them loose enough to allow the slide holder to still be
manually adjusted.
3
Ensure that the microscope is configured with the 10x objective in the active position.
4
Using the stage coaxial control knobs, move the stage all the way forward and to the left. The
upper right edge of the slide should be roughly centered beneath the 10x objective (see
Figure 30-1).
microscope maintenance can necessitate a service call.
