5 Manually adjust the slide holder until the upper right corner of the slide is centered when
looking through the microscope oculars.
6 If your slide holder retaining screws are thumbscrews, skip to the next step. (If the screws
require a screwdriver, continue with this step.) Hold the slide holder firmly in place while
moving the stage far enough to the right to allow screwdriver access to the right retaining
screw.

Tighten the right retaining screw.
8 Position the stage all the way forward and to the right. The upper left edge of the slide should
now be roughly centered beneath the 10x objective (see Figure 30-2).

9 Manually adjust the slide holder until the upper edge is centered when looking through the
microscope oculars.
10 If your slide holder retaining screws are thumbscrews, skip to the next step. (If the screws
require a screwdriver, continue with this step.) Hold the slide holder firmly in place while
moving the stage far enough to the left to allow screwdriver access to the left retaining screw.
11 Tighten the left retaining screw.
12 Repeat steps 4 through 11 until the slide holder edges remain centered beneath the oculars
as the stage is moved back and forth along the slide edges.
