15.11 Backing Up Your Data

To protect your data, BD recommends establishing a routine backup procedure. The slide
processing data is stored on the hard disk of the BD FocalPoint™ Slide Profiler, and each day at
approximately 1:00 AM the system automatically copies important system and slide results data
from the hard disk to a removable storage device. Thus, to ensure successful automatic
backups, keep backup media inserted in your system at all times.
To ensure the most complete backup of data, BD recommends alternating backup media as
described under Section 15.11.2. This procedure will give the most complete backup protection
in the unlikely event of equipment failure.
When the backup procedure is complete, the system displays a message in the information field
of the Main Window indicating the success or failure of the backup. (See Figure 15-12.) If the
backup was unsuccessful, perform the manual backup procedure described in Section 15.11.4.
The system continues to process slides regardless of the success or

Type of USB Flash Drive to Use (for USB backup systems)

Use the following type of USB flash drive:
USB 2.0
4GB capacity (or greater)
When the USB flash drive is used as the backup media, it will be formatted automatically, and all
data on the drive will be lost and can't be used for any other applications. Doing so may result in
loss of all data on the backup media.
