Select any return terminal and test for short circuit between the return terminal and each
input/output terminal. If a digital input is closed, it must be tested independently by
forcing a change of state of the relay or sensor.
3.
Field supply and input/output terminals
Select any field supply terminal and test for a short circuit between the field supply and
each input/output terminal. Digital input may need to be checked as described
previously.
Any faulty cable should be disconnected and investigated by the installer and not
installed until rechecked.
4.
Network cables
Test the network cables to the same as 1 - 4 above. However, the network should be
unplugged at this stage as installations are sometimes phased, and the network should
be commissioned as one exercise.
5.
Externally powered and polarity-sensitive field devices
All field devices should be checked to ensure they are installed according to the
manufacturer's recommendations.
Externally powered devices (actuators, pressure sensors, etc.) – If power is
applied to field equipment, disconnect the wiring to the controller hardware. Once
commissioned and the output signals checked, it may then be reconnected to the
controller and checked for polarity.
Polarity-sensitive devices (actuators, transducers, etc.) – Checks should be made
where polarity-sensitive field equipment is used to make sure the 0 volt (Return) of
that equipment is connected to the Return terminal of the input or output.
6.
Controller link settings
All links (jumper) on the I/O channels should be positioned to suit the type of field signal
to be received or controlled.
4.1.3

Power up and functionality checks

It is assumed at this point that all preceding installation checks have successfully taken
place.
4.1.3.1
Turning on the power
The power can now be safely applied to the controller.
Once the power has been applied, the PWR LED should illuminate, indicating proper power
up. If there is a valid project present on the Nanoline and there are no warnings or errors,
the RUN LED will also illuminate. Refer to "LED indicators" on page 33 for additional
information on LEDs.
If there are any abnormal conditions from any of the above, disconnect the field wiring.
Review and correct any conditions found until the LED operates correctly.
4.1.3.2
Operator Panel
Once the power is applied, the optional Operator Panel should illuminate. If a program is
loaded, a programmed startup screen will appear. If a program is not loaded, a status page
will appear.
