Additionally, the line voltage power supply should not be on the same circuit as that
powering high-power motors or motor contacts. The starting and stopping of the motor will
cause voltage spikes and drops in the voltage to the controller, even if the controller power
has gone through a phase change and/or transformer.
Verify that the ground/earth attachment is to a true ground/earth. This should be
accomplished via the power supply wiring.
4.1.1.6
End-to-end checks
Each pair of wires for digital, analog and pulse inputs, and digital and analog outputs must
be checked for:
AC/DC Voltages (no voltage should be present)
Continuity
Polarity
Destination (according to the Point Chart)
Correcting crossed wiring, faulty wiring and incorrect destinations can amount to more than
50% of a Commissioning Engineer's time.
In summary, all the above checks are related to the installation of the system and should be
checked by a qualified field supervisor.
4.1.2

Field wiring checks

CAUTION:
Do not apply power to the controller or any other devices during this step.
It is assumed at this point that all preceding installation checks have successfully taken
place. The power must not be applied to any products during this phase.
4.1.2.1
Power availability
Ensure that the line voltage supply power is available for the controller. If an external power
supply is to be used for field supply, it should also be checked for proper operation. This
allows the installer time to provide the power if it is not present. However, do not turn the
controller on or apply power to any devices.
4.1.2.2
Visual inspection of controller wiring
A visual inspection should take place to ensure the following:
All wiring is properly terminated.
Shielded cables are grounded/earthed to the ground/earth terminal strip provided on
the Nanoline.
Wiring is tagged and labeled.
Wiring is neat and tidy.
Wiring is installed as described in the point chart.
Internal power wiring is connected correctly and to the right polarity.
