Method 1: User Entry of Phase Detector Constant

Method 1, example 1
Document Part No. E5500-90024Ed. 1.0
Advantages
G
Easy method of calibrating the measurement system
G
Will measure DUT without modulation capability.
G
Requires only an RF power meter to measure drive levels into the
AM detector.
G
Fastest method of calibration. If the same power levels are always
at the AM detector, as in the case of leveled outputs, the AM
detector sensitivity will always be essentially the same.
G
Super-quick method of estimating the equivalent phase detector
constant.
Disadvantages
G
It is the least accurate of the calibration methods.
G
It does not take into account the amount of power at harmonics
of the signal.
Procedure
1
Using information shown in
the circuit and tighten all connections. If the Agilent 70420A
Option 001 or Agilent 70427A is available, use one of the
connection diagrams described in
Diagrams"
on page 12-3.

Setup Method 1, Example 1
2
Measure the power which will be applied to the AM detector (see
Figure
12-7). It must be between 0 and +23 dBm.
