class

The class Policy-map Configuration mode command defines a traffic classification and enters the
Policy-map Class Configuration mode. To remove a class map from the policy map, use the no
form of this command.
Syntax
class class-map-name [access-group acl-name]
no class class-map-name
Parameters
class-map-name — Specifies the name of an existing class map. If the class map does not
exist, a new class map will be created under the specified name.
acl-name — Specifies the name of an IP or MAC ACL.
Default Setting
No policy map is defined.

Command Usage
Before modifying a policy for an existing class or creating a policy for a new class, use the
policy-map Global Configuration mode command to specify the name of the policy map to
which the policy belongs and to enter the Policy-map Configuration mode.
Use the service-policy (Ethernet, Port-channel) Interface Configuration mode command to
attach a policy map to an interface.
Use an existing class map to attach classification criteria to the specified policy map and use the
access-group parameter to modify the classification criteria of the class map.
If this command is used to create a new class map, the name of an IP or MAC ACL must also be
specified.
Example
The following command defines a traffic classification called class1 with an access-group called
HP. The class is in a policy map called policy1.
Console(config)# policy-map policy1
Console (config-pmap)# class class1 access-group HP
