3.Measure·
• Runout (camshaft)
Out of specification

Replace.
Runout (camshaft):
Less than 0.03 mm (0.0012 in)
4.Measure:
• Camshaft-to-cap clearance
Out of specification
➔
Measure the diam-
eter (camshaft bearing)
Clearance (camshaft to cap):
0.020 .. 0.054 mm
(0.0008 .. 0.0021 in)

Measurement steps:
• Install the camshaft onto the cylinder
head.
• Position a strip of Plastigauge®
<D
onto
the camshaft.
elnstall the dowel pins and camshaft caps.
Bolt (camshaft cap):
10 Nm (1.0 m • kg, 7.2 ft• lb)
NOTE: - - - - - - - - - - - -
• Tighten the camshaft cap bolts in a criss-
cross pattern from the inner caps working
out.
• When measuring clearance with the Plas-
tigauge® do not turn the camshaft.
• Remove the camshaft caps and measure
the width of the Plastigauge® (D.

5.Measure:
• Diameter (camshaft bearing) @
Out of specification
➔
Replace the camshaft.
Within specification ➔ Replace the cylin-
der head and the camshaft caps as a set.
Diameter (camshaft bearing):
24.437 .. 24.450 mm
(0.9621 .. 0.9626 in)
