Problem
The engine overheats
The mower pulls to the left or right
(with levers fully forward)
The machine does not drive
The machine vibrates abnormally
The machine produces an uneven
cutting height
The blades do not rotate
Troubleshooting: General Troubleshooting
Possible Cause
The engine load is excessive.
The oil level in the crankcase is low.
The cooling fins and the air passages
above the engine are plugged.
The tracking needs adjustment.
Smart speed shift forks are not both on
the motion control linkage.
The tire pressure in the drive tires is
not correct.
The bypass rods are in the manual
move position.
The drive belt is worn, loose, off a
pulley, or broken.
The tensioner spring is broken or
missing.
The hydraulic oil level is low in the
transaxle.
The cutting blade(s) is/are bent or
unbalanced.
The blade mounting bolt is loose.
The engine mounting bolts are loose.
The engine pulley, idler pulley, or blade
pulley is loose.
The engine pulley is damaged.
The blade spindle is bent.
The motor mount is loose or worn.
The blade(s) are not sharp.
The cutting blade(s) are bent.
The mower deck is not level.
The underside of mower is dirty.
The tire pressure is not correct.
The blade spindle is bent.
The mower deck belt is damaged,
worn, loose, or broken.
The mower deck belt is off the pulley.
The idler spring is broken or missing.

Corrective Action
Reduce the ground speed or raise
height-of-cut.
Add oil to the crankcase.
Remove the obstruction and thoroughly
clean cooling fins and the air passages.
Adjust the tracking. View the Operator's
Manual for the procedure.
Remove the smart speed shift fork
realign and install.
Adjust the tire pressure in the drive
tires.
Place the bypass rods into the drive
position.
Replace the drive belt.
Replace the spring.
Add hydraulic oil to the transaxle.
Install new cutting blade(s).
Tighten the blade mounting bolt.
Tighten the engine mounting bolts.
Tighten the appropriate pulley, check
to make sure idler springs are not over
stretched.
Replace the engine pulley.
Replace the spindle.
Check the mounting bolts.
Sharpen the blade(s).
Install new cutting blade(s).
Level the mower deck from side-to-side
and front-to-rear.
Clean the underside of the mower.
Adjust the tire pressure.
Replace the spindle.
Install a new deck belt.
Install the mower belt on the deck
pulley and check the idler pulley, idler
arm, and spring for correct position and
function.
Replace the spring.
