SECTION 03
SUB-SECTION 04, (CARBURETOR)
REMOVAL
- Disconnect fuel inlet line at fuel pump then secure
fuel line to steering support so that the open end is
located higher than the fuel tank.
-
Disconnect fuel outlet line(s).
- Disconnect pulsation line.

Remove nuts and bolts securing fuel pump.
DISASSEMBLY

Do not disassemble valve unless replacement is
indicated.
To install a new valve, proceed as follows:

Place new valve flat on its seat.

Insert a
3/32"
pin punch inside valve holder and
lubricate tip of holder with a drop of oil.

Push holder into carburetor body as illustrated.

CLEANING & INSPECTION
The entire pump should be cleaned with general purpose
solvent before disassembly.
Fuel pump components should be cleaned in general
purpose solvent and dried with compressed air.

WARNING: Solvent with a low flash point such
as gasoline, naphtha, benzol, etc., should not be
used as each is flammable and explosive.
Inspect diaphragm. The pumping area should be free of
holes or imperfections. Replace as needed.
Check fuel pump valves operation as follows:
Connect a length of clean plastic tubing to the inlet nipple
and alternately apply pressure and vacuum with the
mouth. The inlet valve should release with pressure and
hold under vacuum.
Repeat the same procedure at the outlet nipple. This
time the outlet valve should hold with pressure and release
under vacuum.

NOTE: On model fitted with two outlets, plug one
outlet with finger while checking outlet valve.
INSTALLATION
To install, inverse removal procedure.
