4 Drive Replacement

Before You Begin

Required Tools and Materials
Figure 4-1 A Spectra T120 library drive, rear view (left) and front view (right) (SAIT drive shown).
The new drive must be of the same type as the old drive; check the P.N. on the box.
• An LTO-2 SCSI drive is P.N. 90959000
• An LTO-3 SCSI drive is P.N. 90959051
Note:
After removing the new drive from its packaging, be sure to keep
the packaging to return the malfunctioning drive to Spectra Logic.
Continuing Backups
Drives Attached to QIPs: Backups running to all other drives in the library can safely
continue during the replacement of the malfunctioning drive.
Daisy-Chained Drives: Every drive in the daisy-chain is interrupted as the SCSI chain is taken
apart to remove the failed drive, so backups to those drives should be stopped.
Identifying the Malfunctioning Drive
Typically, the library displays a message indicating the drive problem, which includes a
drive identifier required to identify the drive. The identifier is formatted as LTO-DRV
x
or SAIT-DRV
, with
