8 QIP Replacement

Before You Begin

Required Tools and Materials
You must have the following to complete this
procedure:
• A #2 Phillips screwdriver
• A Fibre Channel QIP (F-QIP) P.N. 90949008
Note:
After removing the new QIP from its
packaging, be sure to keep the packaging
to return the malfunctioning QIP to
Spectra Logic.
Continuing Backups
Backups running to drives associated with the other QIP (if installed) can safely
continue during the replacement of the malfunctioning QIP. The only exception is if
the QIP being replaced is an exporting QIP; removing an exporting QIP prevents the
picker from moving tapes in that QIP's partition.
Caution:
Use your backup software to stop any backups running to drives
that are associated with the QIP that needs to be replaced.
If the QIP being replaced is the exporting QIP, stop backups to
any drives on the other QIP as well.
Identifying the Malfunctioning QIP
Typically, the library displays a message indicating the QIP problem. This message
includes a QIP identifier, which is formatted as
the QIP's position. Note the malfunctioning QIP's identifier before proceeding.
