Preparing the Library

1. If the drive is attached to a QIP, proceed directly to Step 2.
If the drive is not attached to a QIP—that is, direct-attached or daisy-chained—
Spectra Logic recommends turning off power to the host machine.
Caution:
Breaking the SCSI bus can cause a host machine to crash; if you
decide to leave the host running, Spectra Logic is not responsible
for any damage to data or equipment.
2. On the LC, log in as a user with superuser or administrator privileges.
3. From the toolbar menu, select Configuration > Drives. The Drives screen appears
(Figure 4-2).
Figure 4-2 The Drives screen.
4. Select Replace for the drive that needs to be replaced. A Feedback Required
window asks if you are sure you want to replace the drive.
Caution:
Do not select Remove; this removes the drive from the partition,
so it will not be available once the new drive is installed.
5. Select OK. Another Feedback Required window indicates that the existing drive
has been successfully shut down; do not select anything else on the LC until
after the drive has been physically replaced.
6. Go to the rear of the library.
