MAINTENANCE
2.
Open engine oil filler (F).
3.
Place the oil container right under the drain plug (P) to
catch the drained oil.
4.
Install the hose to oil drained port of drain plug (P), and
loosen drain plug (P) to drain the oil.
Check the drained oil. If it contains much metallic powder
or foreign material, contact your Komatsu distributor.
REMARK
Use the attached hose to prevent the oil from splashing
around.
5.
Tighten drain plug (P) and remove the hose.
6.
Turn filter cartridge (2) counterclockwise by using the filter
wrench, and remove it.
If this operation is performed immediately after stopping
the engine, a large amount of oil will come out, so wait for
10 minutes before starting the work.
7.
Clean the filter head (3).
REMARK
Check that there is no old packing stuck to filter head (4). If
there is any old packing stuck to the holder, it will cause
leakage of oil.
8.
Fill the new filter cartridge with clean engine oil.
9.
Apply engine oil (or a thin film of grease) to the seal and thread part of the new filter cartridge.
10. Install the new filter cartridge to filter head (3).
When installing it, tighten it until the seal surface comes into contact with filter head (3).
11. Tighten it 3/4 to 1 turns by using the filter wrench.
Take care not to damage or deform the filter cartridge.
12. After replacing the filter cartridge, refill with engine oil
through oil filler port (F) until the oil level is between H and
L marks on dipstick (G).
13. Run the engine at low idle for a time, then stop the engine
and check that the oil level is between H and L marks on
the dipstick. For details, see "METHOD FOR CHECKING
OIL LEVEL IN ENGINE OIL PAN, ADDING OIL (3-173)".
14. Release the lock of engine side cover (1) and close it.
For the machine with rear fender, hold the edge and be sure to close the cover (b).
REMARK
When the ambient temperature is low, water or emulsified matter may stick to the dipstick, oil filler cap, etc. or
the drained oil may be milky white because of water vapor in the blowby gas. However, if the coolant level is
normal, it is not a problem.
There is no problem even if the emulsified matter cannot be removed completely after changing oil.
