Replacing the Air Cleaner Elements

1. Examine the new or cleaned primary air cleaner element (1, Figure 5-9) for torn
or damaged pleats, liners or gaskets or bent end covers. Discard if damaged
and replace.

Swish the primary filter element around in the solution to loosen dirt particles and
put them into suspension in the solution.
Rinse the primary filter element from the "clean" side to the "dirty" side with a
gentle stream of water. Rinse from both sides if necessary.
Dry the primary filter element before reusing. Circulate warm air at LESS than
71 ° C (160 ° F). DO NOT USE A LIGHT BULB TO DRY THE PRIMARY FILTER
ELEMENT.
Inspect for holes and tears by looking through the primary filter element toward a
bright light. Check for damaged gaskets or dented metal parts. DO NOT REUSE
DAMAGED FILTER ELEMENTS.
Protect the filter from dust/damage while drying.
