Use of the plug and play install disk allows the operator to
develop programs without intimate knowledge of the command
set, SCPI or IEEE 488.2 standards.
After obtaining the instrument handle, or handles if there is
more than one 2461 in the system, the user follows the same
basic procedure as under the OPERATION VIA THE SCPI
COMMAND SET in that the user prepares the various
subsystems for the type of measurement to be taken. Once this
has been completed the user can now call functions to trigger
and retrieve measurements. To access a particular function
card the operator must always pass the card type variable to
any function calls to the 2461 Type C function card of interest.
All retrieved information, that is numerical in nature, is converted
into numerical types for easy manipulation by the user. Array
type measurements are also returned as numeric arrays.
Returned string data is also converted to numerical data for
easy manipulation in the user program
The soft front panel allows the operator interactive control over
the 2461 Type C function card to allow instrument operation. All
major functions are provided.
To use the soft front panel the install disk must first be installed.
The soft front panel application should be launched. The soft
front panel application will now search for a 2461, or multiple
2461, in the VXI system. If a window appears with the message
'No 2461 found in Chassis. Do you want to run in Demo mode?'
and it is desired to run the demonstration version, select the
'YES' option.
If one or more 2461 are found then the main front panel of the
2461 will appear on the screen and the operator should select
the Universal Counter Timer. The main 2461 UCT panel will
now appear and the title bar will contain the instrument slot
number together with the Function Card number so the actual
2461 TYPE C that is being controlled can be identified. This
panel is shown if Figure 5-1.
