The assignment of I/Os for SINUMERIK 840Di is specified via the machine data:

Modification to MD for PROFIBUS-DP
The following machine data has been modified for hardware operation on the PROFIBUS-
DP of the SINUMERIK 840Di.
$MN_HW_ASSIGN_...
The assignment of bytes 1 to 4 has been redefined. The machine data assignments below
apply for PROFIBUS-DP operation:

Guidelines for machine data $MN_HW_ASSIGN_...:
● Logical address in 1st and 2nd byte is specified in hexadecimal format.
● Address 0 is reserved for the PLC and cannot be used as an NC I/O.
● The value 05000000 in the machine data:
● $MN_HW_ASSIGN_...
● represents the signal "Slot is not present physically".
● The input is then treated like a simulation input.
