INSTALLATION
(1) Clean sealing surfaces. Seal surface must be
free of varnish, dirt or nicks. Polish with 400 grit
paper if necessary.
(2) Install camshaft seals into cylinder head using
Special Tool MD-998306 until flush with head (Fig.
92).

(3) Install rear timing belt cover. Refer to proce-
dure in this section.
CAUTION: Do not use an impact wrench to tighten
camshaft sprocket bolts. Damage to camshaft to
sprocket locating dowel pin may occur.
(4) Install camshaft sprockets. Hold sprockets with
Special Tool 6847. Tighten the center bolt to 101 N·m
(75 ft. lbs.) (Fig. 90).

(5) Install timing belt. Refer to procedures in this
section.
HYDRAULIC LASH ADJUSTER
REMOVAL
NOTE: This procedure is for in-vehicle service with
camshafts installed.
(1) Remove cylinder head cover. Refer to procedure
in this section.
(2) Remove cam follower. Refer to procedure in
this section.
(3) Remove lash adjuster (Fig. 93).
(4) Repeat
adjuster.
(5) If reusing, mark each hydraulic lash adjuster
for reassembly in original position. Lash adjusters
are serviced as an assembly.
INSTALLATION
(1) Install
Ensure the adjusters are at least partially full of
engine oil. This is indicated by little or no plunger
travel when the lash adjuster is depressed.
(2) Install cam follower.
(3) Repeat installation procedure for each lash
adjuster.
(4) Install cylinder head cover.
VALVE SPRINGS AND VALVE SEALS IN
VEHICLE
REMOVAL
(1) Remove camshafts. Refer to procedure in this
section.
(2) Rotate crankshaft until piston is at TDC on
compression.
