Importing Pedigree/Attribute Information

When you select a sample template from the drop-down list, the
attributes for that template appear in the window. After you have
registered the sample and defined the experiment, the GCOS process
database will allow you to import the attributes.
See Chapter 6, Setting Up an Experiment, in the Affymetrix GeneChip
Operating System User's Guide, for information on registering a sample
and defining an experiment.
You can import pedigree/attribute information for samples using the
AttributeImporter Tool. This data can then be used:
• To group arrays into virtual arrays
• To perform Mendelian Inheritance checking
• To perform sample mismatch checks
• For export with genotype data in formats that can be used by
association and linkage analysis software
You can also import attribute data for samples that are not in the
database, automatically creating placeholder samples for the attribute
information.
Before using the AttributeImporter Tool, you must:
1. Assign a sample template with attributes to the samples in
GCOS (see
page 182)
2. Create a data file in the correct format (see below).
The use of the AttributeImporter Tool is described in the following
sections:
Creating the Data File (see below)
Importing the Data (see page 186)
Security Roles for GCOS Server (see page 193)
