4. Follow the modem manufacturer's instructions for setting up and verifying

For Windows systems, or with TERM on a Unix environment, enter the
following parameters:

Parity
Stop bits
Modulation
* Port usually defaults to highest speed supported by modem, then may
negotiate for slower speed.
For most UNIX systems, enter the following string at the prompt:
tip /dev/ttyb -9600
modem operation.
