Chapter 7. Customer and/or Business Partner Procedures

Internal DASD Subsystem Configuration

Go to "Emulated I/O Configuration" on page 7-3 if not configuring DASD.
The internal disk feature uses SSA (Serial Storage Architecture) to emulate a 3990 model 2 control
unit with any of the following logical device types: 3880 model E/J/K, or 3390 models 1, 2, 3, or 9.
The hard disk drives used by the subsystem are organized as RAID-5 (redundant array of
independent disks, type 5) device arrays.
A subsystem contains 1 to 3 HDD (Hard Disk Drive) enclosures, one per frame (3 frames
maximum).
The HDD enclosure contains 1, 2, or 3 RAID-5 arrays.
Each array consists of either 5 or 7 HDDs.
Each HDD enclosure is a LSS (logical storage subsystem).
In addition, there is always one spare HDD per enclosure, which is used in case of a failure of one
of the HDDs of a LSS array in that enclosure.
The LSS arrays of the CPC frame consists of a maximum of 5 HDDs each. The HDD enclosure of
the CPC frame can be 6, 11 or 16 HDDs. You must configure the second LSS array when you have
more than 6 HDDS within the encloser and a third when you have more than 11 HDDs.
Remember 1 HDD in the HDD enclosure must be configured as the spare.
The first LSS array of an Expansion Frame also consists of 5 HDDs, while the second and third
LSS array in each of these enclosures consists of 7 HDDs 6, 13, or 20 HDDs in each Expansion
Frame enclosure.
A subsystem contains 1 to 3 HDD enclosure, 1 to 9 RAID-5 arrays, 6 to 56 HDDs, with 1 to 3 HDDs
(one per HDD enclosure) being configured as spares.
1 Beginning the procedure
1. Open Task List from Views.
2. Open CPC Configuration Tasks from
Views.
3. Open Groups from Views.
4. Drag the CPC icon from the CPC Work
Area and drop it on DASD Subsystem
Configuration under CPC Configuration
