Backup Critical Data (Hardware Management Console and Support
Element)

1 Setting up the Support Element

1. Open Task List from the Views area
|
2. Open Service from the Task List Work
|
Area

3. Open Groups from the Views area
4. Drag and drop the Defined CPC's from the
Groups Work Area onto Backup Critical
Data in the Service area.
5. Select checkbox to also backup the
Hardware Management Console when
working from an Hardware Management
Console.
When working from the Hardware
Management Console the Insert optical
Cartridge panel displays. (part 38F8645)
When working from the I/O and Support
Processor Ensure you have a backup tape
cartridge (part 12K0211) installed
Note: A maximum of 10 Defined CPC's
can be backed up to a cartridge.
6. Follow the instructions on this panel.
Leave the optical cartridge in the drive.
Remove the tape cartridge from the drive.
Note: If you have additional Hardware
Management Console(s) select Backup
Critical Console Data from Console
Actions in the Views area. Perform this
action from each additional Hardware
Management Console
Go to "Customizing Scheduled Operations
(Hardware Management Console)" on page 6-69.

Installing the System
Note: It is recommended that if a Hardware
Management Console is available to the
system that backup be done to the optical
cartridge of the Hardware Management
Console.
Attention As a fail safe measure you have been
shipped a second back-up tape PN/12K0645
labeled CRITCAL MFG BACKUP. Save and
secure this backup tape in a safe place. This tape
is to be used under the direction of your support
personnel only.
