c. Check valve head.
 Measure valve head thickness "a" and record.
 Check if the contacting area of grommet is even
and if grommet is located at the center of valve
inclined plane, and measure grommet width "b".

Exhaust Valve Head Thickness
Intake Valve Grommet Width
Exhaust Valve Grommet Width
If it is not within the specified range, replace valve.
d. Check valve stem diameter.

Using a micrometer, measure valve stem diameter.

Exhaust Valve Stem Diameter
If valve stem diameter is not within the specified
range, check the clearance between valve stem and
valve guide.
e. Check clearance between valve and valve guide.
Using a caliper gauge, measure the inside diameter of
valve guide.

Valve Guide Inner Diameter
Clearance between valve and valve guide = Valve
guide inner diameter - Valve stem diameter
Measurement Item
Clearance Between Intake Valve and
Guide
Clearance Between Exhaust Valve
and Guide
If clearance is not within the specified range, replace
valve or valve guide.
